The Peace Journalists Network (PJN) will be launched in Abuja, Nigeria. The Network will help in grain emphasis on the paradigm of peaceful presentation of even the most violent of stories/event rather that hate narratives. The launch, which is scheduled for May 3, 2016 and will have several award winning journalists as well as defense information officials in attendance, is part of activities to mark the World Press Freedom day.
As a prelude to the launch of the Network, Communications and Media students from several tertiary institutions in Adamawa state, North East Nigeria underwent an intensive workshop on Peace Journalism on April 21, 2016 at the premises of the American University of Nigeria. Another such workshop targeted at practicing journalists from across the country is scheduled for May 31 – June 1, 2016 with a likely follow up for media gatekeepers in Fall 2016. Earlier in 2015, several Peace Journalism Workshops were organized with a call to establish a network to help promote peaceful reporting. The PJN is for all communication content developers across the globe. It will give annual awards for stories by journalists that have impacted peace on the society, whether locally or globally.
