JOIN THE CONVERSATION
Peace is not just the absence of war. It is a set of deliberate interventions to prevent and/or transform conflict.
Journalists can play a critical role in conflict prevention. By monitoring and reporting the situation on ground, they can provide early warning of simmering discontentment before they erupt into violent confrontations.
JOURNALISTS IN PEACEBUILDING
Local journalists can break the cycle of violence and help build a local culture of peace in their communities. Since journalists live, work and stay rooted to their communities, they understand the conflict more than outsiders
“Peace Journalism is when editors and reporters make choices – of what stories to report and about how to report them – that create opportunities for society at large to consider and value non-violent responses to conflict”
- Jake Lynch
The Peace Journalists Network is a collaborative project of the US Embassy in Abuja and the American University of Nigeria, Yola.
